Welcome to Goleta Valley South Little League

Started in 1968, the League is the largest and most successful Little League in our District on the Central Coast.  Whether you are a new family or a long-time league family, we hope you find this helpful. For more in-depth information, see the “FAQs” page.

Divisions:
There are 5 Divisions depending on the age of your child. Here are the general ages for each division. However, there can be exceptions.

T-Ball / Coach Pitch: 4-6 years old
Mini-minors: 7-8 years old (machine pitching)
Minors: 9-10 years old (player pitch)
Majors: 11-12 years old (player pitch)
Juniors: 13-14 years old (player pitch)

The Season:
November: Player registration begins for the Spring Season
January: Player evaluations
February: Teams are formed, practices begin
March: Opening Day and Games begin
May: Season ends before Memorial Day
June: All Star Tryouts and team formation for players ages 9-14
August: Player registration for Fall Baseball begins
September: Fall Baseball season begins. Games on Sundays only.
October: Fall Baseball season ends before Halloween.

Volunteer Responsibilities:
When you register for Spring season, in addition to the registration fee for your ball player, you will also be required to write a $200 check to GVSLL. This is a volunteer deposit that you will receive back if you sign up for and work 2 complete volunteer shifts during the season. Here are some ways you can get your volunteer deposit check back:

• Work in the concession stand
• Help with Opening Day setup and festivities
• Help with the field work days throughout the season
• Umpire 3 games

Team Related Volunteer Responsibilities:
Our league has many opportunities for you to help out. It is important to note that signing-on for these positions does not count as your volunteer commitment and allow your check to be returned. No one is exempt from the volunteer commitment, even the President of the League!

• Team Manager – We have coaching clinics during the Spring to help you learn how to Manage a Team.
• Team Coach - Assist the Team Manager with practice, etc.
• Team Mom - Helps organize snacks, team pictures,special events, communication with the Team and the League.
• Scorekeeper or announcer during your child’s games

It can be really fun to help out with your team and the league depends on volunteers to provide the best experience possible for all the kids.


Cost of Participation:
In the interests of full disclosure, there are other potential costs of participation in the league. In addition to registration fee and your volunteer deposit (which is refundable).  (Please note that there will be no Registration Refunds after draft night.)  Here are some other potential costs you could incur.

If you manage a team, you are charged a $200 equipment fee deposit that is refunded if you return all of the equipment at the end of the season. You could also end up purchasing extra items during the season like baseballs, etc.

You are also asked to purchase or sell raffle tickets.

Many teams have a team party and the cost is shared by the families on the team
